Homeward Bound

Homeward Bound is a 3D animated short film about Arthur, an old man whose life has come to a standstill after the death of his wife, Helen. He embarks on a mysterious adventure in search of his wife in the afterlife. The film explores the idea that love is stronger than death, that true love transcends boundaries, even life itself.

During my graduation year I worked on the short film Homeward Bound. Within Homeward Bound, I fulfilled several roles. As art director, I established the modeling and shading style. In addition, I served as co-asset lead and, together with Esmée, created the living room where Arthur’s story begins. After the style research phase, I also worked on the shading of the living room. The gloomy, grey atmosphere of this room forms a strong contrast with the airy flower meadow and reinforces Arthur’s state of mind. Last but not least; as an animator, I brought the characters to life and worked on scenes with an emphasis on emotion. I focused on subtle movements to communicate Arthur and Helen's feelings and to strengthen the emotional weight of the story.

The living room I created together with Esmée van Leeuwenstijn, a combination of modelling and kitbashing. Shading done by me.
